Description
Ancarani's white “Le Signore” is one of the wines closest to Claudio Ancarani's heart. It came about almost by chance: looking for a local white grape to sit alongside Trebbiano and Albana, Claudio was struck by the potential of Famoso and in 2007 decided to plant the first rows, helping to revive a variety that by then had become rare in Romagna and was often relegated to the role of table grape, appreciated for its large, sugar-rich berries but given little consideration for winemaking because of its natural tendency to lose acidity during vinification. It is precisely this near-forgotten status that has made its rediscovery in recent years all the more significant: today Famoso has once again become one of the symbols of the revival of Romagna's native grapes, with a distinctive aromatic profile and the ability to express the character of the territory authentically. The vines grow on the hills of Oriolo dei Fichi, near Faenza, at 80-130 metres above sea level, on silty soils with some sand and clay. The harvest is carried out by hand with careful selection of the bunches. After destemming, the grapes are soft-pressed with a short rest in the press to allow a gentle extraction of aromas. The wine then matures on its own lees for around two months and completes its ageing in concrete tanks, where it gains balance and definition before bottling. In the glass it shows a bright pale yellow. The nose unfolds elegantly with floral hints and mineral sensations, accompanied by notes of loquat, white peach and jasmine, enriched by a subtle touch of bay leaf. On the palate it is linear and harmonious, supported by pleasant freshness and a precise, decisive finish that keeps its tension and drive without ever becoming aggressive. A refined, terroir-driven white that tells the story of one of the most fascinating varieties in contemporary Romagna winemaking.
