Description
Ancarani's red “Centesimino” is the wine that best represents the biodiversity of the hills around Faenza. For the estate, Centesimino is not just a variety to be preserved, but a true heritage of the area, capable of contributing to the revival and promotion of Romagna's winemaking identity. For a long time this grape was known as “Savignôn Rosso”, a popular name that still accompanies its history and charm today. The grapes of this rare native variety, rediscovered and championed by a small group of producers, come from vineyards in Oriolo dei Fichi, on the hills surrounding Faenza. The estate's soils are rich in limestone, fossils and clay, and the imprint of the terroir is unmistakable. As for all the estate's wines, the harvest is always carried out by hand, with a strict selection of the best bunches, respecting quality and varietal identity. Winemaking begins with destemming, followed by spontaneous fermentation started by indigenous yeasts; the skins remain in contact with the must for around twenty days of maceration, allowing a slow and complete extraction of aromas and structure. The wine matures on its natural lees and then for at least 10 months in concrete tanks, where it gains stability and balance before completing its journey with a few months' rest in the bottle. In the glass it shows an intense ruby red colour with garnet hues. The nose is characterised by fruity and floral notes reminiscent of rose, the typical aromatic signature of this grape, with elegant and complex persistence. On the palate the entry is fresh and welcoming, combining dynamism and depth. The structure is present but never dominant, supported by a balance that leads to a dry, savoury finish. A distinctive and original red.
