Description

Lacrima di Morro d'Alba from Podere Santa Lucia is a wine that perfectly embodies the authenticity of the vine, an indigenous variety of the Marche region with very ancient origins. Historical evidence suggests that in 1167 Federico Barbarossa enjoyed a wine made from this vine when he stayed at the Morro d'Alba castle during the siege of Ancona. The name itself seems to derive from the appearance of the berries, which, when ripe, drop like tears of juice. This bottle is the most classic of Podere Santa Lucia's production, carefully vinified and matured in steel to preserve and enhance the distinctive characteristics and aromas of this vine. The vineyard is located in the area of Monte San Vito, a neighbouring village of Morro d'Alba, but within the DOC Lacrima di Morro d'Alba area, and is cultivated with the Guyot training system on clayey-sandy soils in a warm, south-facing zone. The yield is limited to 100 quintals of grapes per hectare in order to maintain a high quality of the grapes. Vinification is carried out with fermentation maceration with indigenous yeasts in steel vats at a controlled temperature of around 22-24°C, followed by ageing for 10 months in steel barrels "sur lies" and a further 2 months in the bottle. The aim of this process is to guarantee the maximum expression of the characteristics of the Lacrima grape. The very intense ruby red colour suggests a wine of great personality, powerful, with varietal notes of rose petals and violets, which blend harmoniously with aromas of ripe red berries. On the palate, it is fresh, medium bodied, soft and balanced, with well present and enveloping tannins. Ideal with aromatic or spicy dishes, grilled or roasted meats, with a special mention for lamb.
