Description

Planties Weiss is a dry still wine made by the St. Quirinus winery from Piwi grapes, known for their natural resistance to fungal diseases. These varieties are the result of crosses between European vines and American or Asian vines, the hybridisation giving them the high resistance of American varieties to fungi and the health consequences of their attack. It is a vintage white, easy to drink, with a soft palate and hints of exotic or Mediterranean yellow-fleshed fruit, characteristic of the Piwi variety. It is a sustainable organic wine, obtained from vineyards located at an altitude of about 450 metres above sea level, above the town of Caldaro in the Trentino Alto Adige region. The soil is composed of limestone and moraine, with gravel and porphyry. In the vineyard, the vines are pruned using the Guyot pruning system and the yield must not exceed 100 quintals of grapes per hectare in order to obtain good quality fruit for the cellar. After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and fermented at a controlled temperature of around 20°C in steel tanks. The wine is then aged for six months, again in steel. It has a bright, pale straw-yellow colour and opens to the nose with a range of crisp apple and juicy peach aromas, intertwined with nutmeg, in an enveloping and delicate combination; the finish has an intriguing touch of exotic fruit. On the palate, the 'Planties Weiss' is smooth and pleasant, with a delicate acidity that enhances its balance and drinkability. Versatile and inviting, this white lends itself to a wide range of gastronomic combinations: ideal as an aperitif, it accompanies hors d'oeuvres, fish dishes and Asian cuisine, and is the perfect companion for any convivial occasion.
