Description

The Fior d'Arancio Passito is a true gem among Ca' Lustra's sweet wines, a refined expression of the Moscato Giallo grape variety cultivated in the picturesque Euganean Hills. This wine reveals the very Mediterranean, sunny and vigorous character of the Moscato Giallo grown in these areas. The land of the Euganean Hills, with its volcanic soils, marls and clays, its mild climate and its wide range of temperatures, is the perfect environment for Moscato Giallo. The vineyards, situated between 200 and 400 metres above sea level, benefit from a carefully controlled yield of between 40 and 60 quintals per hectare. The grapes are harvested by hand in crates, and only the bunches with perfectly intact, dry grapes are selected for careful drying on racks. When the degree of drying is considered suitable, the dried grapes are crushed, destemmed and the must obtained is left to macerate with the skins for about 10 days, during which time the indigenous yeasts begin to ferment. It is aged in tonneaux for 3 years. Fior d'arancio (orange blossom) is the name given to Moscato Giallo in the Euganean Hills, due to the citrus and floral scents that wines made from this variety have on the nose. There is no shortage of aromas of ripe and candied fruit, dried fruit, caramelised figs, honey, pollen, pout-pourri, cinnamon and cardamom. On the palate, the aromas are amplified, with an excellent balance between freshness and residual sugar; the sip is full-bodied, enveloping and rich, with a delicate finish. It is the ideal companion for moments of meditation, but it is also excellent with dry pastries and blue-veined or very mature cheeses.
