Description

‘Viarsa’ is a white wine created by Alberto and Renata. It is made using grapes from the native Tocai Friulano variety, which are vinified by hand. However, in spring 2017, severe frost hit the vineyards hard, destroying all four Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso crus and the entire Chardonnay Monuments cru. After weeks of despair, Alberto and Renata selected a vineyard in an unaffected area, identifying a Tocai Friulano vineyard on the hills of Oleis in eastern Friuli. This vineyard is planted on soils composed of silty clay on the surface and dolomitic limestone deeper down.
This is how Viarsa was born: a wine produced using the same vinification processes as always, including cold skin extraction followed by fermentation in steel tanks at controlled temperatures of around 15 °C. The ageing process lasts almost a year, with the wine remaining on its fine lees until it is bottled. Unlike the other labels, which document all phases of the vineyard and cellar processes, Renata and Alberto chose to create a fresh wine by forgoing the ageing period in the bottle.
Straw yellow in colour with greenish reflections, it is an intense, complex white wine in keeping with the high quality of the Murva winery. It releases fruity hints of pear and apricot on the nose, accompanied by the slight almond note typical of Friuli. On the palate, it is dynamic and smooth on entry with a pleasant sapidity that lingers on the finish. Its excellent balance of freshness and salinity, together with the perfect harmony between aroma and flavour, characterise this fascinating wine.
