Description

Melaris is the only Murva wine made from Malvasia Istriana, inviting those who taste it to immerse themselves in its complex and evocative nuances. A vine of Greek origin, it was brought to Italy by the Venetians before the 14th century, and it was thanks to the Serenissima Republic that it began to spread throughout the Upper Adriatic: Istria, the Karst, Collio and Isonzo. Melaris is a seductive wine, dominated by marine and mineral sensations, with clear iodine effluvia mixed with exotic fruits and spices. The sip exudes warmth, it is soft with a harmonious acidity, the savoury finish, which lingers, reveals hints of olives, fruit and saltiness and invites you to drink. On the nose, the wine has an intriguing vegetal and fruity bouquet, with elegant resinous nuances. The vineyard is located in the municipality of Moraro, where the soil is of medium texture. This soil has a limited water-holding capacity, but is well aerated and exposed, and is the wettest in the area. Cultivated using the spurred cordon system, with a density of 70 quintals per hectare and the presence of silty clay on the surface, followed by a layer of dolomitic limestone under 90 centimetres, this vineyard produces wines of great finesse, elegance and complexity. After manual harvesting, as for all the white wines of the Murva winery, the must is destemmed and crushed, then kept in contact with the skins at low temperatures before fermentation begins at 15°C in steel tanks. Maturation takes place in the same vats, "sur lies", until the following summer. All in all, Melaris di Murva is a wine that offers a harmonious balance between freshness and softness throughout the sip, very suitable with traditional regional dishes.
