Description
The white 'Melaris' is the only Murva wine produced with Istrian Malvasia, inviting those who taste it to immerse themselves in its complex and evocative flavours. This grape variety originated in Greece and was brought to Italy by the Venetians before the 14th century. It was thanks to the Venetian Republic that it began to spread throughout the upper Adriatic, including Istria, Carso, Collio and Isonzo. Melaris is a bright and consistent interpretation of Malvasia, clearly conveying all the charm of the fruit. Expressive and rich in nuances, it stands out for its natural immediacy and exceptional versatility with food. The vineyard is located in the municipality of Moraro and is characterised by medium-textured soil. With limited water retention but excellent aeration and exposure, this soil stands out as the rainiest site in the area.
Cultivated using the spurred cordon system with a density of 70 quintals per hectare, and with silty clay on the surface and dolomitic limestone below 90 centimetres, this vineyard produces wines that are refined, elegant and complex.
As with all the whites from the Murva winery, after manual harvesting, destemming and crushing, the must is kept in contact with the skins at low temperatures before fermentation begins at 15°C in steel tanks. Ageing takes place in the same vessel, 'sur lies', until the following summer.
Melaris is a bright straw-yellow wine dominated by marine and mineral sensations with evident iodine aromas mixed with exotic fruits and spices. It has a warm palate, soft acidity and a savoury finish that lingers with hints of olives, fruit and saltiness, enticing you to drink more. Intriguing vegetal and fruity tones emerge on the nose, while elegant resin nuances develop.
