Description
Vinicola Cicella’s Negroamaro rosé is made from 100% Negroamaro grapes, which, together with Primitivo, is one of the most widely grown and also one of the oldest native varieties of Puglia and southern Italy. Its potential has only recently been rediscovered, thanks in part to local rosé wines like this one; for many years, in fact, it was used solely as a blending grape to add colour to red wines from northern Italy and France.
Vinicola Cicella’s Negramaro rosé is a wine that captures all the qualities of this grape: fresh and vibrant, easy-drinking and lively, a young vintage wine with fragrant red berry aromas.
The grapes come from the estate’s own 25 ha, located between the municipalities of Torricella, Lizzano and Maruggio, close to the Ionian coast. The Negroamaro rows run north-south and the vines are bush-trained (alberello).
The harvest takes place by hand in the second ten days of September, to preserve the integrity of the bunches and select the best ones. After destemming, the must is left to macerate on the skins for a very short time, so as to extract little colour and obtain a rosé must. The juice, separated from the solids, ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks.
After five months of ageing in stainless steel tanks, it is ready for bottling. Bright pink with coral highlights, on the palate it is pleasantly fresh and balanced, with good length on the finish. The nose is harmonious, with intense notes of cherry, rose and pomegranate. It is ideal as an aperitif or with starters, pasta and rice dishes, fish soups, fish baked en papillote or roasted, white meat dishes and young or lightly aged cheeses.
