Description

The Superior version of Podere Santa Lucia's Lacrima di Morro d'Alba is a wine of extraordinary aromatic complexity, a full expression of the Lacrima grape variety, carefully aged in wooden barrels over ten years old. Soft and structured on the palate, this interpretation of Lacrima is distinguished by its exceptional longevity. Le Cantarelle represents the pinnacle of Podere Santa Lucia's production, a rare and coveted bottle that reflects the estate's respect for local traditions and its commitment to preserving native varieties and recovering ancient ones. In fact, over the centuries, the Lacrima vine's diffusion has been progressively reduced, until it was exclusively confined to its area of origin, the Morro d'Alba. This restriction brought the vine to the brink of extinction. In the 1980s, however, modern cultivation methods and the DOC were introduced, which helped to preserve the vine and protect it from extinction. The grapes come from the vineyards of Monte San Vito, in the municipality of Morro d'Alba, where the average age of the vines is 15 years, they are trained with the Guyot system and the yield at harvest is 70 quintals per hectare, in a clayey-sandy soil that gives the wine its characteristic complexity. After a long maceration of 20 days in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 22-24°C, the wine matures for 24 months in oak barrels and a further 6 months in the bottle. Le Cantarelle is ruby red in colour and has a very intense and complex bouquet, with typical floral notes of roses and red berries, balanced by tertiary notes of spices and pepper. On the palate, it is soft to the touch, silky and balanced, with a good structure that makes it an excellent companion for robust and spicy dishes. Ideal with grilled or roasted meats, it enhances the flavours of mushrooms, truffles, spices, pork, wild boar and lamb.
