Description

Podere Santa Lucia is a family business, the product of three generations of winemaking. Grandfather Gianni was the first in the family to produce Verdicchio in the 1960s, creating the Balducci family's first winery. Over time, the company moved to the Morro d'Alba area to produce quality red wines, and in 2005 the new brand and winery was born.

From the beginning, the aim has been to work with autochthonous vines, trying to express the best possible quality, working only with grapes grown on the estate's land, using the techniques and passion handed down from our grandparents, seeking the maximum expression of local wines.

The production is focused on two typical wines of the area: Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba. In addition to these two ancient varieties, which can only be found in our territory and whose production areas are particularly limited, we have also rediscovered an ancient local variety that had almost disappeared: 'Incrocio Bruni'.

At Podere Santa Lucia, the search for quality and sustainability in production is a constant concern, and to this end, the ancient skills of their winemaking ancestors are combined with modern oenological technologies to create a completely organic farm.

The most modern equipment is used, but the work in the vineyard is done as our grandparents did: manual harvesting of the grapes, double selection of the bunches, also by hand, and direct control of each barrel.

In this way we obtain high quality wines, with balance and great personality, preserving the typicality of the land with a varied and complete range of wines, from white to red, from rosé to sparkling.

Today the company has 10 hectares under vine, mainly dedicated to the great classics of the area. In recent years, the company has also begun to produce sparkling wines, thanks to the great quality of the local grapes and their multifaceted character, which lends itself to the production of different types of wine.

Great attention is paid to the sustainability of the company, certified organic since 2018, but always mindful of the environmental impact. All work in the vineyards is mechanical and the use of herbicides was abandoned many years ago in order to encourage biodiversity in the vineyards. Treatments are carried out with products of natural origin, without the use of synthetic molecules. Attention is also paid to packaging: the bottles never exceed the necessary weight to avoid wasting glass and the caps are made from sugar cane to have a negative carbon footprint.

Everything at the Podere is designed to have as little impact as possible on the environment, which generously gives us its fruit; our job is to be its custodians.
