Description

A unique and fascinating wine, born in 2017, almost by chance, from a grape variety, Teroldego, the prince of Trentino. The idea for this wine was born when Alessandro and Michele had some empty barriques and decided to experiment with the Teroldego grape. After several experiments, they decided to bottle it and create a new label. The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 170 metres on clayey-clayey soil with skeletal presence. The vines are cultivated using the Guyot training system and organic methods, with a planting density of 5,000 vines per hectare. Quality is an essential element on the estate, which is why production is limited to 1-1.5 kg per vine. The carefully selected grapes are harvested exclusively by hand in the first half of September and undergo a soft destemming and crushing process. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a constant temperature of 28/30°C for about 8/10 days. Periodic pumping over and délestage are also carried out for this label to allow a better exchange of polyphenolic substances and colour diffusion between the must and the skins immersed in it. After fermentation, the wine remains in contact with the skins (maceration) for 5-10 days, depending on the vintage. Once the skins are removed, the wine begins its ageing in wood for 24 months in French oak tonneaux, half in new barrels and half in second passage barrels. The name 'Buio' has two origins: on the one hand, the fact that the wine was born 'by chance' and unexpectedly, almost in the dark; on the other hand, the intense, almost black red colour of the wine itself, which is reminiscent of darkness. The nose enchants the senses with notes of red fruits, blackcurrants and blackberries, juxtaposed with subtle hints of vanilla and tobacco. On the palate, the entry is broad, supported by good structure and intensity, with a dynamic finish characterised by good acidity.
