Description
The 'Planties' three-bottle case encapsulates the essence of the St. Quirinus winery, a South Tyrolean business led by Micheal Sinn and a pioneer in the cultivation of Piwi vines, grapes that are naturally resistant to fungal diseases. A sustainable, organic and refined selection that celebrates three unique expressions: white, rosé and red.
The 'Planties Weiss' white is a dry still wine produced by the St. Quirinus winery from Piwi grapes known for their natural resistance to fungal diseases. It is a vintage white, easy to drink, with a soft palate and hints of exotic and Mediterranean yellow-fleshed fruit, versatile and ideal with appetisers or fish dishes.
The 'Planties Rosé' wine is a St. Quirinus label, also produced with Piwi grapes resistant to fungal diseases, but in red varieties, vinified as a rosé. Fresh and refined, it has notes of strawberry, raspberry and wild berries, is very drinkable and perfect as an aperitif.
The red 'Planties Rot' is a prestigious wine, the result of the promotion of Piwi vines that Michael Sinn is pursuing with the St. Quirinus project: a structured red with roaring tannins and affable fruit, ideal with succulent meats and mature cheeses.

Piwi "Planties Weiss" St. Quirinus
Description
Planties Weiss is a dry still wine made by the St. Quirinus winery from Piwi grapes, known for their natural resistance to fungal diseases. These varieties are the result of crosses between European vines and American or Asian vines, the hybridisation giving them the high resistance of American varieties to fungi and the health consequences of their attack. It is a vintage white, easy to drink, with a soft palate and hints of exotic or Mediterranean yellow-fleshed fruit, characteristic of the Piwi variety. It is a sustainable organic wine, obtained from vineyards located at an altitude of about 450 metres above sea level, above the town of Caldaro in the Trentino Alto Adige region. The soil is composed of limestone and moraine, with gravel and porphyry. In the vineyard, the vines are pruned using the Guyot pruning system and the yield must not exceed 100 quintals of grapes per hectare in order to obtain good quality fruit for the cellar. After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed, crushed and fermented at a controlled temperature of around 20°C in steel tanks. The wine is then aged for six months, again in steel. It has a bright, pale straw-yellow colour and opens to the nose with a range of crisp apple and juicy peach aromas, intertwined with nutmeg, in an enveloping and delicate combination; the finish has an intriguing touch of exotic fruit. On the palate, the 'Planties Weiss' is smooth and pleasant, with a delicate acidity that enhances its balance and drinkability. Versatile and inviting, this white lends itself to a wide range of gastronomic combinations: ideal as an aperitif, it accompanies hors d'oeuvres, fish dishes and Asian cuisine, and is the perfect companion for any convivial occasion.Read More

Piwi "Planties Rosé" St. Quirinus
Description
Planties Rosé is a St. Quirinus label wine, again made from the fungus-resistant Piwi grape, but from red varieties, vinified in rosé. A fresh and refined rosé wine, an expression of sustainable viticulture that respects nature. In fact, these varieties allow those who grow them to use fewer, if any, phytosanitary chemicals to keep the plants healthy, making it easier to follow the dictates of organic farming. It can be considered a rosé that comes from the Alps, as evidenced by the vertical imprint that can be seen throughout the St. Quirinus line. There is also no lack of inviting and persuasive fruity aromas, which are always appreciated in a rosé. The Pianizza di Sopra estate produces many of Michael Sinn's wines. We are located above the town of Caldaro, 450 metres above sea level, on moraine soils with limestone and gravel, rich in porphyry. The influence of the "Ice Holes" biotype provides fresh air even in summer, a natural phenomenon that helps the plants and is exclusive to certain mountain areas. All the grapes are harvested by hand, after which they are carefully destemmed and crushed before the must is fermented in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 18°C. Prior to ageing in steel tanks, the wine is left on the fine lees for a period of time and stirred periodically with batons. In the glass, the 'Planties Rosé' presents itself with an elegant light cherry pink colour. The nose is dominated by delicate notes of strawberry, raspberry and fresh berries. On the palate, the body is light but well defined, with a good, invigorating acidity that adds liveliness to the sip and pleasantly prolongs the persistence. Very drinkable, this rosé is perfect with savoury starters, fish or vegetable dishes and is also excellent as an aperitif.Read More

Piwi "Planties Rot" St. Quirinus
Description
The red wine 'Planties Rot' is a fine reference, the result of the improvement of the Piwi vines that Michael Sinn is pursuing with the St. Quirinus cellar project. These varieties, which are resistant to fungal diseases, are often at the centre of debates between those who believe that they are incapable of reflecting the terroir of their homeland, thus favouring traditional vines, and those who believe that it is more important to reduce the environmental impact of viticulture, both in terms of reducing the use of chemicals and phytosanitary products, and in terms of reducing the use of heavy machinery in the vineyard. What is certain is that between sustainability and quality, St. Quirinus 'Planties Rot' is a powerful, structured red wine with roaring tannins and friendly fruit. The grapes are grown in the Unterstoan and Putznai areas near the municipality of Tramin. The hilly terrain, at an altitude of about 250 metres above sea level, and the milder climate than in other areas of the province, allow the vines to express their full potential. The soils, rich in dolomite gravel and limestone, ensure freshness in the glass and the grapes are selected at harvest time, with a yield limited to 60 quintals per hectare. The grapes are destemmed and the must remains in contact with the skins during the alcoholic fermentation, which takes place in steel vats at a controlled temperature of 30°C. Malolactic fermentation takes place in steel tanks before the wine is aged in barriques for 24 months. In the glass, 'Planties Rot' has a dark garnet red colour with violet reflections. On the nose, there are hints of black berries such as blackcurrants and blackberries, along with elegant hints of vanilla and toast. The palate is full-bodied, supported by well-integrated tannins, structured, with balanced acidity. Planties Rot is an ideal accompaniment to succulent meat dishes such as roasts and game, but it also pairs well with mature cheeses, offering a satisfying taste experience.Read More
