Description

Grignolino Del Monferrato Casalese D.O.C. 'Monferace' is not just a wine, it is the story of a dream come true, an alliance of a group of producers, including Alemat, spread over the hills of Casale Monferrato, Alessandria and Asti, to restore the dignity of a wine, Grignolino, that for centuries has been loved and sought after by all Italian and European courts, by kings and illustrious personalities. In addition to the name, which recalls the ancient name of Monferrato aleramico, the vinification process is also inspired by the past, with long ageing in barrels to soften the tannins, which are pronounced when young and develop over the years, expressing character and elegance at their best. A line of excellence, born from a vine with great potential, a faithful expression of the terroir, this wine is of great complexity, a succession of aromas of flowers, spices and fruit. On the palate, its elegance is expressed in a body with loose tannins that reflect its age. Grignolino grapes are grown at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level on clayey-calcareous soils with a south-west exposure that guarantees excellent sunshine. The grapes are harvested by hand in boxes, so that they arrive at the winery perfectly intact and ready for sorting before pressing and alcoholic fermentation. This takes place in temperature-controlled steel vats with maceration on the skins for 15 days. After fermentation, the wine remains in contact with the skins for another 20 days of post-fermentation maceration to enrich it with macromolecules, broaden its texture and fix its bright ruby red colour. "Monferace" matures for 24 months in small oak barrels, followed by at least 20 months in the bottle. On the nose, this red wine has a varied bouquet, opening with floral notes of violets and rose petals, then enriched with spicy notes, white pepper and cloves stand out. At the end, notes of ripe fruit emerge, with plums, cherries in alcohol and blackberries, enveloped by a harmonious presence of vanilla. The palate is full-bodied, with a firm structure and perfectly balanced acidity; the tannins are soft, fine and well-integrated, with a velvety touch and excellent length in the mouth. This Grignolino accompanies meat dishes, roasts and mature cheeses, perfectly complementing the flavours of the dishes.
