Description

The Morhum wine from the Giasira winery, made from the prized Nerello Mascalese grapes, is elegant and harmonious, with red fruit that beautifully accompanies the spicy notes, and tannins that are present but well-balanced, making it a pleasure to drink. Typical of the region, this grape variety is mainly grown in the Etna area and takes its name from the dark, intense colour of its berries, while 'Mescalese' comes from the Contea di Mascali, the territory of the Sicilian municipality of Mascali, where this grape variety has been cultivated for centuries. The vines are cultivated with dedication and organic methods on calcareous soil at an altitude of between 180 and 250 metres above sea level. Harvesting is done manually in the second half of September, as Nerello Mescalese is a late variety. In the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and the alcoholic fermentation begins in steel tanks with a long maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature. The wine matures for 9 months in stainless steel vats, followed by another 9 months in 25hl oak barrels. After bottling, the wine remains in the bottle for at least 3 months before being released. To the eye, Morhum presents an inviting light ruby red colour. On the nose, it has pleasant notes of dried rose, berries and a hint of pepper. The taste is characterised by a good structure, well supported also by the marked acidity, the soft tannin accompanies to a persistent and satisfying finish. Its versatility makes it suitable for various occasions, perfect with any meal and ideal with pizza, cold meats and semi-mature cheeses.
