Description
Coldo red is the latest label from Semonte, a pure Merlot with a playful character that is not to be underestimated. On the nose it reveals the typical fruity notes of the vine, rich in floral scents, and on the palate it is well structured, thanks to its ageing in wood.
Elegance and power in the glass respect the wild and silent beauty of an area rich in history and unspoilt nature, the hills of Umbria, near the famous city of Gubbio.
The grapes of this international variety come from a single vineyard located in Mocaiana, a hamlet a few kilometres from the winery, at an altitude of 450 metres. The vines grow on marly soils that provide structure and, thanks to the high altitude and temperate climate, the Merlot develops a refined aromatic richness and natural freshness.
The work in the vineyard is carried out with care and respect, with low yields at harvest and manual selection of the grapes between the rows.
In the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and macerated before cold fermentation in steel tanks for 10 days. Fermentation then takes place at a controlled temperature in cement tulip vats, always with maceration on the skins, which remain in contact with the wine during post-fermentation at a high temperature of around 22°C, a temperature that also favours malolactic fermentation.
The wine is then matured for 12 months in French oak barrels of second passage, and continues its journey in the bottle for a further year.
In the glass, 'Coldo' has an enticing ruby red colour, a bouquet of small dark berries, enriched by delicate floral notes with a spicy and smooth background on the finish. On the palate it is warm, enveloping, dry, of great balance and intensity of flavour, with fine, velvety tannins that make it smooth and refined.
It is the ideal red wine to accompany roast meats, structured first courses and mature cheeses.
