Description
The three-bottle case "I classici d'Abruzzo" from the Fontefico winery contains three labels from the Abruzzo region: "La Canaglia", "Fossimatto" and "Cocca di Casa", wines that represent the character, freshness and passion of a winery that combines craftsmanship, respect for nature and a deeply territorial soul.
La Canaglia is an exuberant and crisp Pecorino Superiore DOC, with a dazzling colour and aromas of Mediterranean herbs and citrus fruits. It comes from the Vigna Bianca vineyard, where the soil composed of iron, sand and clay and organic farming methods produce a fresh, mineral and voluminous wine with notes of pink grapefruit, bitter almond, sage and mint.
Fossimatto, a Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Superiore DOC, is made from 100% Montepulciano grapes grown in the Vigna del Pozzo vineyard. It is an exuberant rosé with character, an intense cherry colour and aromas of currants, raspberries and aromatic herbs. The palate is structured, juicy, elegant and persistent.
"Cocca di Casa", Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC, is the winery's most popular red wine. Soft, fresh and fragrant, it captivates with notes of small red fruits, cherries and spices. Intense ruby in colour, it envelops the palate with delicate tannins and a liquorice aftertaste.

Pecorino Superiore "La Canaglia" Fontefico
Description
Pecorino Superiore DOC 'La Canaglia' from the Fontefico winery is an euphoric and crisp white wine with a brilliant colour and a pleasant bouquet of aromatic Mediterranean herbs and citrus fruit. It is made from Pecorino grapes, a grape variety that has found the ideal conditions to flourish in the Abruzzo region. Fontefico is located in the southern part of Abruzzo, near the coastal town of Vasto. The company's philosophy is to produce wine from grapes grown on individual plots of land, all with unique pedo-climatic characteristics, known in France as CRU, and this has given rise to six original labels, one of which is 'La Canaglia', from the Vigna Bianca. This parcel of land has the peculiarity of giving low yields, low production, despite the attention of Nicola and Emanuele, the two owners, but guarantees a wine of authentic personality, fresh and voluminous, of great quality. We are 120 metres above sea level and the soil has a variable composition of iron, sand and clay. The vines are cultivated organically, respecting the environment as much as possible. The harvest is done by hand and the grapes are immediately processed in the cellar: the berries are destemmed, crushed and the must is left to macerate with the skins for a day in steel tanks before spontaneous fermentation begins, thanks to the work of indigenous yeasts. La Canaglia' then matures in steel tanks for 6 months before being released. In the glass, it is straw yellow in colour, full-bodied and fresh on the palate, with a mineral step and pleasant citrus notes of pink grapefruit dominating the taste, while a pleasant bitter almond aftertaste emerges on the finish. On the nose, a rich aromatic bouquet of sage and mint, with hints of white flowers, stands out, an enveloping and inviting experience.Read More

Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo Superiore “Fossimatto” Fontefico
Description
The Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Superiore DOC 'Fossimatto' from the Fontefico winery is a full-bodied rosé with the character of the land it comes from. Structured and juicy on the palate, it expresses lively notes of red fruits. Cerasuolo is a wine that cannot be missing from the references of Abruzzo wineries, in fact it is one of the most prestigious and well-known rosé wines in Italy, unique in its kind. Its name comes from the Latin 'Cerasum', which means cherry, in reference to its characteristic colour, which is closer to that of some red wines than to traditional rosés. Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Superiore 'Fossimatto' is made from pure Montepulciano red grapes grown on the Vigna del Pozzo estate, 120 metres above sea level on the promontory of Punta Penna, near the coastal town of Vasto. The rows of vines face east and are trained in the Abruzzi pergola system, typical of the area. The soil is rich in skeleton, with some iron and clay, and is not easy to cultivate. At Fontefico, respect for the environment is fundamental, so the vineyard is cultivated organically and the wine is left to express itself in the cellar without any intervention. The vinification is white, even if we start with red Montepulciano grapes; the grapes are destemmed and crushed, then a soft pressing takes place and the must is left to ferment spontaneously, without the addition of selected yeasts, in temperature-controlled steel tanks. At the end of this process, the wine matures for 6 months in steel tanks before being bottled. It is then aged in the bottle for at least 3 months. The deep rosé colour is sensual and reminiscent of ripe cherries. At first sniff, it reveals an unmistakable aroma of blackcurrants and raspberries that delights the palate and nose with remarkable complexity and elegance, the finish is long and well composed.Read More

Montepulciano d’Abruzzo “Cocca di Casa” Fontefico
Description
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 'Cocca di Casa' is Fontefico's entry level red wine. Although the Montepulciano vines generally produce structured wines, this version is easy to drink, soft, fresh and undemanding, with fragrant fruity aromas and a hint of spice. It is extremely versatile and adapts with agility to a wide range of dishes and convivial moments. Montepulciano is the jewel of Abruzzo, the most famous and widespread red grape variety in the region, enchanting with its elegance and complexity. It is the wine of choice for every occasion, the faithful companion that delights with its pleasantness; in Fontefico it is cultivated and tended with love and dedication, which is why it is called "Cocca di Casa", a term that in Italy means a loved and spoiled person. The Montepulciano vines are organically cultivated on the Vigna del Pozzo estate, where the grapes for the Fossimatto rosé are also harvested. The vines are trained in the Abruzzo pergola system and face east, towards the sea. The soil of this parcel is rich in skeleton, with many stones, but also clay and iron. At harvest time, the grapes are picked by hand to ensure a careful selection of the best bunches, which are then destemmed and crushed in the cellar. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel vats, the must remains on the skins for 22 days and ferments spontaneously thanks to the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the grapes. The wine matures for 6 months in steel tanks, then the mass is divided, 70% remains in steel, while the remaining 30% matures in wood for 18 months until bottling, then in glass for another 6 months before release. The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC ""Cocca di Casa"" has an intense ruby red colour, it is enveloping on the palate, characterised by soft and pleasant tannins, with a fascinating aftertaste of liquorice and spices. Its bouquet is intense and resinous, with notes of red berries and cherries.Read More
