Christmas
At Christmas wine does two jobs: the bottle on the table and the gift for someone who loves it. Here you find both, chosen from Italovino's wineries. If the gift is for a wine lover, pick a red to keep in the cellar: the Barolo «Fondatore Carlo Deltetto» by Deltetto in Piemonte; or the Amarone della Valpolicella Classico «Campo di villa» by Nepos Villae in Veneto. Both get better with a few years of waiting. For someone who likes to taste, the three-bottle packs put together three wines that already go well side by side: a ready-made gift, for colleagues too. For Christmas lunch, the Teroldego «Gobbo Rosso» by Cantina Pisoni in Trentino-Alto Adige suits roasts and long meals. For the toast there is Metodo Classico, like the Alta Langa «PN-CH» by Deltetto in Piemonte; or the «Crusò» by Tenuta Corallo in Puglia; and for a lighter glass the Prosecco Superiore «Alice» by Le Vigne di Alice in Veneto. With desserts you want a sweet wine: the Recioto della Valpolicella «La tesa» by Nepos Villae in Veneto; the Primitivo di Manduria passito «Pezza della Chiesa» by Vinicola Cicella in Puglia; or the Moscato Giallo Dolce by Cantina Pisoni in Trentino-Alto Adige. A tip for the table: open the big red an hour before, and serve the sweet wine cool, at around 12 degrees.
