Description

The red wine I Lioni, is the label dedicated to the name of the Deltetto family and to the small hamlet of the same name, where the old family farm was located and where the first bottles of Nebbiolo and Barbera were produced at the end of the 19th century. I Lioni is an interesting version of the most famous Piedmontese grape, in purity that expresses freshness and liveliness, the nose is pleasantly fruity, with fine integrated tannins, less structured than its older brother Barolo, this line is pleasant even at a young age. The Nebbiolo grapes come from a vineyard in the Canale area, in the hamlet of I Lioni, near the winery, at an altitude of between 250 and 300 metres above sea level, where the soil is mainly sand and clay of alluvial origin. The vines are relatively young, around 15 years old, and are cultivated using organic methods in the name of sustainability. After manual harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts; the must is left to macerate on the skins for about 10 days. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 12 months, during which it undergoes malolactic fermentation. In the glass, Nebbiolo I Lioni has a pale ruby red colour and a frank and direct bouquet with notes of violets, spices and juicy red fruits. Elegant and fresh on the palate, it is enveloped by velvety, well-integrated tannins with a persistent finish. On the table, it goes well with pasta dishes, meat specialities and mature cheeses.
