Description

Cantina De Vigili's Teroldego Rotaliano Superiore Riserva 'Ottavio' is deeply linked to tradition, to the land and to the people. The name on the label is linked to the ancestors who founded the winery in the 19th century, while the grapes come from ancient vines, some of them probably centuries old, that grow in the Pasquari cru, in the Rotaliana plain. They are a living testimony to the cultivation of Teroldego in an area of choice and historical importance. The soil on which the vines grow is loamy for the first 40 centimetres and then becomes pebbly and gravelly, while the training system is traditional, a Trentino double pergola, which contributes to a very low yield of 60 quintals per hectare. During the harvest, a rigorous selection of the grapes takes place, trying to select those with the ripest stems. The commitment to quality of the De Vigili winery, where each bunch is the result of a rigorous selection in the vineyard, is then reflected in each bottle. Fermentation takes place in "uncovered" 500-litre tonneaux and at the end of the process the wine is transferred directly to barriques where it undergoes malolactic fermentation and matures for a good 18 months. The wood used is a combination of lightly toasted French and Pfälzer oak, which contributes to the wine's exceptional elegance. After one year of bottle ageing, Ottavio is ready for the market. It has a striking garnet red colour, typical of the grape variety. To the nose, it has an aromatic bouquet enriched by notes of ripe red fruit, with a hint of jam, accompanied by a subtle spicy note that adds depth to its personality. On the palate, the wine is pleasantly fruity, with silky tannins and a long finish. Recommended to accompany important dishes such as game and red meat.
