Description

The Verdicchio Classico 'Pellegrino' from Podere Santa Lucia is a very typical example, skilfully vinified in steel. Young and fresh, crisp and agile, this Verdicchio faithfully represents the characteristics of the Verdicchio grape variety and offers a very drinkable experience. It comes from the gentle hills of Montecarotto, a small village in the hinterland of the Marche region, which has all the makings of a quality wine. Pellegrino comes from a vineyard that is about 15 years old, planted on clayey-sandy soil, exposed to the north and constantly refreshed by winds from the Apennines and the Adriatic Sea, cultivated with the Guyot training system and strictly following the principles of organic farming. The grapes are harvested by hand and the wine undergoes a vinification process that enhances its freshness and typicality. Pressing takes place in the absence of oxygen to avoid oxidation of the must, followed by cold decanting, a technique that allows the elimination of substances that can impart unpleasant flavours and odours, before spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature of around 16-18°C. This process takes place entirely in steel tanks, in order to best preserve the characteristics of the Verdicchio vine. The wine matures for about 6 months before bottling. This classic Verdicchio releases aromas of yellow-fleshed peach and pineapple, elegantly combined with yellow flower petals. On the palate it is fresh and savoury, with a medium-long, typically bitterish aftertaste that underlines its unique personality, ideal for those looking for a light, elegant and versatile wine, the perfect companion for informal moments, light dinners and situations where freshness and aromaticity are the protagonists.
