Sardinia

Sardinia, an island in the heart of the Mediterranean, is a unique wine-producing region in Italy, characterised by spectacular landscapes, diverse soils and a climate favourable to viticulture. The island's winemaking traditions are ancient, reflecting Phoenician, Roman and Spanish influences. Among the most famous indigenous grape varieties is Cannonau, considered to be Sardinia's flagship wine. This grape variety produces full-bodied, intense red wines with hints of ripe red fruit, spices and a light herbaceous note. Cannonau di Sardegna is prized for its structure and ability to age, developing complexity and depth.

Another important grape variety is Vermentino, which thrives in the Gallura region in the north of the island. Vermentino di Gallura DOCG is a fresh and aromatic white wine with notes of citrus fruit, white flowers and a distinct minerality, ideal with traditional local fish dishes.

Sardinia is also famous for other indigenous grape varieties such as Carignano del Sulcis, a rich and structured red wine, and Nuragus, a light and fresh white wine. The variety and quality of Sardinian wines reflect the richness of their terroir and the island's long winemaking tradition, making Sardinia one of Italy's most fascinating wine regions.
