Description
Podere Orto's Rosato 'Amai' is a special tribute to Giuliano and Simona's daughter Maia, whose name is reflected in the anagram 'Amai'. This rosé is a blend of white and red grapes, all native to the area, the majority of which is Procanico, with the remainder being Sangiovese.
The vineyards are located in the municipality of Trevinano, in Alto Lazio, a strip of land on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, surrounded by woods, springs, streams, flora and fauna, rich in biodiversity. We are located in hilly areas, on sedimentary soils rich in skeleton, clay and sand. The exposure of the vines varies between north and west for the white varieties and west for the red varieties, guaranteeing an optimal balance between freshness and ripeness. The strictly manual harvest takes place around the first week of October.
The vinification process reflects the variety of grapes used. The red grapes are partially destemmed and the must ferments spontaneously in small vats, with daily manual punching down, while the white varieties are pressed directly, without crushing or destemming, and fermented in steel tanks. After the malolactic fermentation, which is usually completed in the spring after the harvest, when the temperature returns to a level favourable to the action of the lactic bacteria, the different batches are blended. The wine matures for 12 months, partly in fibreglass tanks and partly in steel vats, before being bottled for a further 12 months.
In the glass, Amai has a bright and lively rosé colour. The nose opens with intense aromas of small red berries, accompanied by elegant floral notes of violets and roses, reminiscent of the freshness of white grapes. On the palate, it is lively, fruity and lightly structured, with a lingering finish that invites you to take another sip.
Perfect as an aperitif, served chilled, it goes well with lightly prepared dishes, finger food or light appetisers.
