Description

The Verdicchio Classico Superiore DOC 'Jano' from Colle Jano is a wine that comes from old vines, some of which are almost 60 years old and some of which are even free standing, that Filippo and Giulia, the protagonists of this exciting project, have rescued from neglect. The Jano wine is a pure expression of the terroir of the Cupramontana hills in the Marche region. Harmonious, clean and slender on the nose, it is rich, full and complex on the palate, with a lively acidity typical of the wines of the area, capable of accompanying any dish. Colle Jano is a small, family-run winery with a completely artisanal approach, both in the cellar and in the vineyard, where the Verdicchio grape is cultivated without the use of chemical or synthetic products, in a hilly area at an altitude of 250 metres above sea level, characterised by soils with a composition ranging from sandy to silty clay, enriched by a strong presence of calcareous marl, a sedimentary substratum of marine origin. The strictly manual harvest takes place in mid-September. About 35 quintals of grapes are harvested per hectare, a very low quantity that guarantees quality. The whole grapes are gently pressed and the must ferments spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts at a controlled temperature of 17°C. The refinement lasts about 8 months, the wine remains in steel tanks on its own lees, constantly stirred by battonage, until bottling. Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Jano presents itself in the glass with a delicate straw-yellow colour. The bouquet is a symphony of intense citrus and mineral notes, which evolve over time into hints of dried fruit. The palate is fresh and structured, with a palpable minerality, an unmistakable characteristic. The sip is balanced and continues with nuances of aromatic herbs that add complexity and depth. Perfect with fish dishes, both starters and main courses, but also very good with white meats or savoury pies.
