Description

The Stramonia red wine from Cascina Belmonte is a wine that offers a relaxing and soothing experience, with vanilla sensations that combine with fruitiness to express the sweetness of intact, well-ripened fruit jam. An ideal companion for Sunday lunch, home is its place, its emotional transposition; a calming, healing and nourishing refuge, like a well-deserved rest after a busy week. The name recalls the ancient wild herb Datura Stramonium, used in the Middle Ages to prepare potions to disinhibit and reveal the truth. This wine is made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, a blend now internationally known as the Bordeaux blend, harvested slightly overripe. Rich in structure, Stramonia is aged in barriques for 12 months, followed by 6 months in the bottle. Dark ruby red in colour with bright reflections, it has a brilliant shine and a youthful richness on the palate. On the nose, plum and cherry notes emerge in a fresh and clean context, with a light sweetness of vanilla and caramel that elegantly closes the bouquet. On the palate, Stramonia is savoury and smooth, with a good balance. The finish is characterised by a pleasant tannic astringency, balanced by the alcoholic warmth that restores balance. The round and slightly tannic character of the Merlot comes through clearly, making this wine the perfect accompaniment to red meat dishes and fine cuts. It is ideal with grilled meats, cooked simply and strictly medium-rare, where the juicy bitterness of the roasted meat blends harmoniously with the soft freshness of the wine, allowing the tannins to have the last word.
