Description
The three-bottle case 'Un assaggio di Sicilia' (A taste of Sicily) from the Baglio Diar winery contains a white, a red and a rosé, Dida, Nedda and Lia, which are also part of the Wine Art line, where literature meets Sicilian viticulture.
Dida, a still white wine made from pure Catarratto grapes, is a symbol of the island's native tradition. It has an intense straw yellow colour with golden reflections and aromas of dried figs, aniseed and vanilla. On the palate it is structured and balanced, with persistence and lively minerality, enriched with notes of toasted hazelnuts, lemon preserve and ripe apricot.
Lia, a rosé inspired by the character from Giovanni Verga's Malavoglia, is made from organic Nero d'Avola grapes grown in Mazara del Vallo. Bright claret pink in colour, it offers aromas of strawberry and mango with hints of pink pepper and mint. Fresh, drinkable and balanced, it offers notes of black cherry, pomegranate and a hint of fennel, perfect with spicy dishes or raw seafood.
Nedda, a refined native red, is made from Nero d'Avola, the grape variety that symbolises Sicily. Bright ruby red in colour, it has aromas of black cherry, blackberry and prune, with delicate hints of vanilla and cloves. On the palate it is harmonious, with elegant tannins and a lingering finish of ripe cherry and hazelnut.

The still white “Dida” is also part of Baglio Diar’s prestige line, called Wine Art, whose bottle names and labels are inspired by the novels of Pirandello and Verga, symbolising the union between literature and the island’s native viticulture. Dida is made from 100% Catarratto, one of the oldest grape varieties in Italy and considered the most widely planted native variety in Sicily.
This dynamic, fully organic winery was born from the vision of the De Girolamo family, who have been involved in winemaking for generations, and is committed to practices that respect the environment and health.
The Catarratto grapes are grown in the vineyards of Salemi, at 350 m above sea level, where they benefit from marked day-night temperature swings and medium-textured soils, ensuring greater acidity, freshness and structure in the glass.
The harvest is carried out with care during the nights of the third and fourth week of September. Once in the winery, the grapes are gently pressed before alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 15°C for about 15 days. The wine then ages for 4 months in barriques and a further 3 months in stainless steel tanks, completing its ageing with at least one month in bottle.
It shows an intense straw yellow with golden highlights. The nose is an irresistible invitation, with notes of dried figs, anise and a delicate hint of vanilla. On the palate, Dida wins you over with its structured, balanced body, excellent length on the finish with hints of toasted hazelnuts, and lively minerality. Flavours of preserved lemon and ripe apricot also emerge.

The rosé “Lia” is named after a character in Giovanni Verga’s novel I Malavoglia. With this charming label, the Di Girolamo family, founders of the Baglio Diar winery, wish to compare Lia, the youngest of five siblings, sensitive and beautiful, to this poised rosé of great personality, rich in sweet aromas of strawberry and mango on the nose, fresh and easy-drinking on the palate, with delicate hints of mango and pomegranate on the finish. Ideal for enjoying on hot summer days, perhaps during the golden hour after a day at the beach.
It is made from one of Sicily’s signature grapes, Nero d’Avola, farmed according to organic principles, with organic fertilisers applied only as needed and no synthetic herbicides, in the vineyards of Mazara del Vallo, in south-western Sicily, which have mainly sandy soils, low altitudes and a Mediterranean climate. The hot summers are constantly tempered by the sea breeze, creating ideal conditions for growing organic grapes and limiting treatments against fungal diseases, which find no conditions in which to take hold. The grapes are always harvested at night, in the first ten days of September; after gentle pressing, the rosé must ferments for about 12 days at a controlled temperature of 15°C in stainless steel tanks. The wine then ages for 3 months in stainless steel tanks and for at least one month in bottle before release.
In the glass, Lia is a bright, pale pink. On the nose, enveloping and inviting aromas of strawberry and mango emerge, with a spicy touch of pink pepper, enriched by fresh hints of mint. In the mouth, its balanced acidity, light body and delicate tannins create a refreshing experience. Notes of sour cherry, pomegranate and a herbaceous hint of fennel can be found on the finish.
This rosé is the perfect companion for spicy dishes and tomato-based recipes. Outstanding with raw prawns and gourmet tropical fruit salads, it is a versatile wine that recalls the most refined side of Sicilian tradition.

The wine “Nedda” is a refined native red from the Wine Art collection created by Baglio Diar, an example of one of Sicily’s most iconic varieties, Nero d’Avola, also known as "Calabrese", a name with an interesting linguistic history linked to the local dialect. Calabrese is Calaulisi in Sicilian, where Cala is a synonym of the Sicilian word rracina (grape), while Aulisi comes from the Sicilian Aula (Avola), the place where this variety originated and reaches its finest expression.
We can go so far as to call Nero d’Avola a very terroir-driven wine, able to offer quite different expressions in the glass: south-western Sicily brings out its fruity, enveloping character, with hints of ripe black fruit, blackberry, blueberry and a lively touch of clove, making it gentler, softer and more approachable. The vineyards that produce Nedda lie specifically between the municipalities of Marsala and Salemi, at an altitude of around 200 m above sea level, in an area of mainly clay soils, with a naturally Mediterranean climate and ideal conditions for organic viticulture that is sustainable and healthy for the environment and for people. The grapes are always harvested at night, in this case in the first days of September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with the must macerating on the skins for about 7-10 days at a controlled temperature of 24°C; the wine then ages for 5 months in barriques and then for 3 months in stainless steel tanks, with a further rest of at least 2 months in bottle.
In the glass, Nedda shows a vivid ruby red of medium intensity, while the nose releases intense aromas of sour cherry, blackberry and prunes, accompanied by elegant, unobtrusive hints of vanilla from the ageing and spicy notes of clove. On the palate it is supported by good acidity, the tannins are elegant and the body is not too assertive. Notes of ripe cherry, blueberry, hazelnut and a hint of cedar enrich the tasting experience, leading to a harmonious, long finish.
Perfect with spiced game, grilled red meat or baked stuffed vegetables, Nedda is also surprising with grilled shellfish, revealing its versatility.
