Description
Baglio Diar's 'Rossi dell'isola' three-bottle case combines the following wines: Disira, Nedda and Velata, three reds that reflect the authentic face of south-western Sicily, a journey through native and international grape varieties, interpreted by Baglio Diar.
Disira, a pure Syrah, takes its name from the Sicilian dialect and means 'during the evening', evoking the atmosphere of quiet and contemplation at sunset. Produced between Trapani and Salemi, it stands out for its aroma of red flowers, raspberry and blackcurrant, with a fresh and lively palate, soft tannins and an aromatic finish of strawberry, blackberry and Mediterranean spices.
Nedda, a refined indigenous red from the Wine Art line, is made from Nero d'Avola grapes, also known as Calabrese. Fruity and enveloping, it offers aromas of black cherry, blackberry and prune, accompanied by notes of vanilla and cloves. On the palate it is elegant and harmonious, with good acidity and smooth tannins, ideal with grilled meats or spicy dishes.
Velata, the winery's most recent red label, is made from 100% Perricone grapes. Intense and complex, with aromas of blackberry, liquorice, black tea and cocoa, it captivates with its full and enveloping taste, supported by lively tannins and a long finish.

The wine “Disira” is made by Baglio Diar from 100% Syrah red grapes. The name “Disira”, which means “during the evening” in Sicilian dialect, evokes the calm, contemplative atmosphere of sunset, the perfect moment to enjoy this wine, excellent for anyone looking for an elegant red with aromas of red fruit and spice, medium-bodied, with soft, well-integrated tannins. Produced from vineyards between Trapani and Salemi, in south-western Sicily, at an altitude of 250 m above sea level, the vines enjoy clay soils and benefit from the climate typical of this part of the island, with winters that are never too cold and hot summers. The sea breeze that cools the rows and the grapes is an almost constant presence. The harvest takes place at night between the second and third week of August, entirely by hand. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 24°C for 7-10 days, with maceration on the skins. The wine is then aged for 3 months in glass-lined concrete tanks, plus a further month in bottle. In the glass, Disira is a bright ruby red with violet highlights. On the nose it releases delicate aromas of red flowers such as rose and violet, enriched by fruity notes of raspberry and blackcurrant. On the palate it is fresh and lively, medium-bodied with soft tannins, closing with a pleasant aromatic persistence recalling strawberry, blackberry and Mediterranean herbs and spices such as thyme and black pepper. Perfect with white meat, game with aromatic herbs and lightly spiced fish sauces, it is a versatile wine that brings out the flavours of its homeland.

The wine “Nedda” is a refined native red from the Wine Art collection created by Baglio Diar, an example of one of Sicily’s most iconic varieties, Nero d’Avola, also known as "Calabrese", a name with an interesting linguistic history linked to the local dialect. Calabrese is Calaulisi in Sicilian, where Cala is a synonym of the Sicilian word rracina (grape), while Aulisi comes from the Sicilian Aula (Avola), the place where this variety originated and reaches its finest expression.
We can go so far as to call Nero d’Avola a very terroir-driven wine, able to offer quite different expressions in the glass: south-western Sicily brings out its fruity, enveloping character, with hints of ripe black fruit, blackberry, blueberry and a lively touch of clove, making it gentler, softer and more approachable. The vineyards that produce Nedda lie specifically between the municipalities of Marsala and Salemi, at an altitude of around 200 m above sea level, in an area of mainly clay soils, with a naturally Mediterranean climate and ideal conditions for organic viticulture that is sustainable and healthy for the environment and for people. The grapes are always harvested at night, in this case in the first days of September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with the must macerating on the skins for about 7-10 days at a controlled temperature of 24°C; the wine then ages for 5 months in barriques and then for 3 months in stainless steel tanks, with a further rest of at least 2 months in bottle.
In the glass, Nedda shows a vivid ruby red of medium intensity, while the nose releases intense aromas of sour cherry, blackberry and prunes, accompanied by elegant, unobtrusive hints of vanilla from the ageing and spicy notes of clove. On the palate it is supported by good acidity, the tannins are elegant and the body is not too assertive. Notes of ripe cherry, blueberry, hazelnut and a hint of cedar enrich the tasting experience, leading to a harmonious, long finish.
Perfect with spiced game, grilled red meat or baked stuffed vegetables, Nedda is also surprising with grilled shellfish, revealing its versatility.

The wine “Velata” is the most recent “red label” launched by the Baglio Diar winery, on the market since 2023, following what we might call the trend of recent years in Italy: the rediscovery of ancient native grape varieties. Velata is made from the red Perricone grape, also known as Pignatello in the provinces of Palermo and Trapani, from “Pignatidare”, the red clay soils typical of the Trapani area, and of Marsala in particular, from which terracotta cooking pots are made. The variety was widely grown until the end of the 19th century and used as a blending grape to add structure and colour to Sicilian blends. After years of neglect, it is now finding new life as a single-varietal wine.
The Perricone vineyards are in the heart of south-western Sicily, near Trapani, at an altitude of around 250 m above sea level, on clay soil. The hillside position and the hot, arid climate, with periods of drought that have become more extreme in recent years, offer ideal conditions for Perricone, which adapts perfectly.
The harvest, carried out at night between mid- and late September, helps preserve the integrity and freshness of the grapes on their way to the winery.
The wine is fermented with skin maceration for 15 days at a controlled temperature of 25°C. At the end of the process, malolactic fermentation is allowed to take place.
Velata then ages for 6 months in French oak barriques, followed by a period in stainless steel tanks before bottling and at least 3 months of rest in bottle before release.
In the glass it shows an intense ruby red; on the nose it is seductive and complex, with aromas of blackberry and liquorice enriched by notes of black tea, cocoa and toasted hazelnut. On the palate it is full and enveloping, with good body, lively tannins and vibrant acidity. Flavours of black cherry, cinnamon, peanuts and a touch of coffee lead into a long, pleasant finish.
Perfect with grilled red meat, roast lamb and aged cheeses, Velata is also surprising alongside game stews with black olives and aromatic herbs. A wine of decisive, sophisticated character for lovers of structured reds.
