Description

Welcome to the enchanting Giasira estate, a corner of Sicily of rare beauty, where tradition and passion for wine come together. In 2004, the Piedmontese entrepreneur Giovanni Boroli and his wife Isabella, a Venetian from Syracuse, bought this extraordinary estate, restoring an ancient baglio that is now their residence, immersed in the picturesque Hyblean countryside.

The name Giasira comes from the Arabic "Gesira" or "Gisira", meaning "island", a tribute to the isolated position of the estate, protected by the deep erosive furrows of the quarries that carve the Hyblean plateau. The estate extends over 130 hectares between the provinces of Syracuse and Ragusa, halfway between Noto and Modica, cities recognised by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.

The property is crossed by the Prainito stream and is dotted with olive trees, age-old carob trees, almond trees and citrus fruit, all typical of the agricultural landscape of this part of Sicily. In 2005, with the advice of the oenologist Gianfranco Cordero, Giovanni decided to plant local varieties such as Nero d'Avola and Moscato bianco, along with Sicilian varieties such as Grillo, Catarratto and Nerello Mascalese, and also international varieties such as Merlot and Chardonnay.

The principles of sustainable agriculture and respect for the environment are at the heart of the company's philosophy and guide the production of certified organic wines. The winery uses integrated pest management with beneficial insects and careful work in the cellar has created wines that express integrity and elegance, reflecting the love and respect for this Sicilian land.

The winery has a large area of limestone soils dedicated to viticulture, taking advantage of the Mediterranean climate, ventilation and day/night temperature range. In 2010, a modern winery was built on the estate to vinify the hand-picked grapes and carefully follow all the stages of wine production, maintaining a controlled temperature and using state-of-the-art equipment.

Looking to the future, a photovoltaic system was installed in 2010, making the estate energy self-sufficient.
