Description
The Baglio Diar 'Lumìe' three-bottle case contains three bottles of Baglio Diar's ancestral method sparkling wine, a lively Sicilian sparkling wine with a strong territorial identity. The name 'Lumìe', which in Sicilian dialect means lemon tree, is a reference to the citrus notes and marked acidity that characterise this sparkling wine, made from 100% Catarratto grapes. The vineyards are located in Salemi, a village in north-western Sicily, at 350 metres above sea level, where the sandy and clayey soils, together with hot summers and cool nights, give the grapes balance and freshness. The early night-time harvest in the first days of August preserves the acidity and liveliness of the grapes. Lumìe is made according to the principles of the ancestral method: after controlled fermentation, the wine naturally completes its fermentation process in the bottle, ageing for at least five months before being released for sale. In the glass, it is bright straw yellow with silvery reflections. The nose reveals aromas of banana, green apple and elderflower, while the palate is fresh and taut, with notes of lime, grapefruit, almond and honey, supported by fine effervescence and vibrant acidity. Perfect as an aperitif or with finger food, grilled oysters and citrus dishes: a sip of authentic and surprising Sicily.

The sparkling wine “Lumìe” is Baglio Diar’s ancestral method wine: a fizz of great drinkability and freshness, lively and expressive of its territory, like the name it has been given. Lumìe is the Sicilian dialect word for the lemon tree, a perfect tribute to the citrus nuances and marked acidity that characterise this charming sparkling wine made from 100% Catarratto. The ancestral method is a style of sparkling wine with very ancient roots, and it can certainly be described as the forerunner of today’s sparkling wines.
This white comes from Catarratto vineyards in Salemi, a village in north-western Sicily. The plot’s altitude of 350 m above sea level favours viticulture, together with soil rich in sand and clay, mild winters and hot summers with beneficial night-time temperature drops. The harvest takes place at night, when the air is cooler, and is very early: in the first days of August the bunches are still high in acidity and lower in sugar, the ideal ripeness for sparkling wine.
After gentle pressing, the free-run must ferments at a controlled temperature of 13°C, and when the desired residual sugar level is reached, the wine is chilled to stop fermentation. It is then bottled while still partially fermented and naturally completes its fermentation in the bottle, according to the principles of the ancestral method. It is then aged for at least 5 months in bottle before release.
In the glass, Lumìe is a bright straw yellow with silvery highlights. On the nose it opens with intense fruity aromas of banana and green apple, enriched by nuances of elderflower. The palate has a fresh, taut entry, continuing with citrus notes of lime and grapefruit before opening up to softer hints of almond, honey and a balsamic touch of eucalyptus. The delicate effervescence and vibrant acidity make this wine irresistible from the very first sip.
Perfect on its own as an aperitif, Lumìe pairs beautifully with fried finger food, citrus cheesecake, grilled oysters and honey-roasted pork. A taste of Sicily, authentic and surprising.
