Description

Cantina Semonte was born from the intuition and courageous decision of the Giovanni Colaiacovo family to recover a historic vine, the Dolcetto, which had been cultivated in the Eugubino area since the end of the 19th century.

Today, in addition to the cultivation of vines of Piedmontese origin, we find in the cellar a selection of wines aimed at representing a new area of the Umbrian wine panorama, that of Upper Umbria.

The vines cultivated are Chardonnay, Dolcetto, Merlot and Pinot Noir, cultivated using the spurred cordon and Guyot training systems, with an average planting density of 6,000 vines per hectare, while the vineyard extends over an area of 13 hectares, located between 400 and 700 metres above sea level.

The composition of the predominantly limestone and clayey hilly terrain, the hand-harvesting of the grapes and the reduced use of pesticides allow the winery, equipped with new and modern technologies, to produce a unique quality product.

And it is precisely from this work of recovery and rebirth of a still "new" territory that wines such as Battista (Spumante Metodo Classico Brut 24 months on the lees), Battista 600 (Spumante Pas Dosè Metodo Classico 36 months on the lees), Cordaro (Dolcetto aged 24 months in French oak barrels and 24 months refined in the bottle) and Monteleto (Chardonnay refined in steel for 6 months and another 6 months in the bottle) are born.
