Description
The “Kalterersee” red by St. Quirinus is made exclusively from the native Schiava grape. It is a sister label to “Bergwerk”, set apart by its superior designation and its ageing, part of which takes place in wood.
A red of great tradition and a faithful expression of the Alto Adige territory and of the Schiava variety: tasty, well-defined fruit and a fresh, smooth, easy-drinking sip. A dry red that also pairs well with fish.
The vines grow on limestone soils with gravel and granite, at 300 metres above sea level, in an elevated area overlooking Lake Kaltern. A mild microclimate shaped by the nearby lake helps the vines bring forth grapes full of character and, above all, healthy, thanks to the organic viticulture practised by the Sinn family. At harvest the bunches are taken promptly to the cellar and destemmed. Fermentation takes place with the skins macerating in the must, in stainless steel tanks at a controlled 26°C. Ageing lasts about 6 months in large wooden casks and steel tanks, during which malolactic fermentation takes place.
Kalterersee Classico Superiore shows a lively, bright ruby red colour. A delicate, seductive bouquet with notes of juicy cherries, berries and a typical hint of bitter almond. On the palate the body is elegant and delicate, with balanced acidity and a pleasantly harmonious finish.
A versatile red that suits many dishes: perfect with pasta and risotto, fish, light meats and pizza, and wonderful with Alto Adige specialities such as speck or polenta.
