Description
The 'Origine Puglia' three-bottle case from the Vinicola Cicella winery contains three authentic expressions of the Apulian tradition: Fiano, Primitivo del Salento and Negroamaro.
Fiano, vinified in purity, is a fresh and light white wine with floral and exotic fruit notes. It originates in the countryside south of Taranto, on sandy and clayey soils that are influenced by the breeze from the Ionian Sea. Fermented and aged in stainless steel, it offers balance, softness and a pleasant savouriness on the palate.
Primitivo del Salento is an intense and enveloping red, vinified in stainless steel to enhance its freshness and immediacy. Made from grapes harvested from bush vines in the municipalities of Maruggio, Lizzano and Torricella, it releases aromas of blackberries and plums. The taste is soft and persistent, ideal with red meats, game and mature cheeses.
Negroamaro completes the trio with its warm and velvety soul. Coming from well-ventilated sandy soils, it expresses aromas of blackcurrant, wild berries and thyme. On the palate it is harmonious and savoury, with soft tannins and a long and pleasant finish. Three wines that express, each in its own way, the authenticity and character of Salento.

The Primitivo del Salento from the Vinicola Cicella winery is made from 100% Primitivo grapes: a version fermented and aged in stainless steel, more easy-drinking and meant to be enjoyed young, the perfect companion for convivial moments with friends, bringing with it the authentic taste and elegance of southern Italian vineyards.
A wine with a balanced palate, soft and smooth, that charms with rich aromas of crisp-fleshed fruit and small red berries.
The grapes are selected from several vineyards in the municipalities surrounding the winery, Maruggio, Lizzano and Torricella, lands steeped in history and winemaking tradition and particularly well suited to producing structured, fruit-rich wines.
The Primitivo vines are all bush-trained (alberello), and full ripeness is generally reached in the first ten days of September, when the harvest takes place. The bunches are processed promptly and carefully destemmed, ready for fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, during which the juice remains in contact with the skins.
The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks for 12 months. The Primitivo del Salento is a very deep ruby red with violet highlights; in the mouth it is soft and pleasant, with intense flavour and a long finish. On the nose, complex aromas dominated by blackberry and plum captivate and invite you to take a sip. Recommended with hearty pasta dishes, red meat and game, or with hard cheeses. With its easy drinkability and pleasant character, this Primitivo is a true gem of the Puglia region.

Vinicola Cicella’s Negroamaro is made from 100% Negroamaro grapes, an ancient variety native to Puglia, very well suited to lively, pleasant rosés but equally perfect for young red wines, as in the case of this label: warm and enveloping in spirit, full-bodied and balanced in taste, to be enjoyed on informal occasions with friends and a good meat dish. The nose is intense and distinctly varietal, with prominent notes of red fruit and Mediterranean spices.
The grapes grow on plots with north-south facing rows and soils made up mostly of sand, with some silt and clay. The cool breezes from the nearby sea and the dry, arid climate of Puglia create a healthy, ideal environment for a variety such as Negroamaro, which is very susceptible to mould, thus avoiding many of the vineyard treatments that are needed in damper, rainier regions. The bunches reach full ripeness during the second or third week of September, when they are hand-picked and taken to the nearby winery to be destemmed. The must ferments on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Ageing lasts 12 months, again in stainless steel tanks, thus preserving the varietal aromas. Deep in colour, purple red with blackish-violet highlights, on the palate it is complex and harmonious, with velvety tannins and a remarkably long, savoury finish. On the nose, the aroma of blackcurrant and berries is captivating, enriched by spicy nuances and hints of thyme. Perfect throughout the meal, it pairs well with white meat dishes, roasts, game and cheeses.

The Fiano made by the Cicella winery, as its name suggests, is produced from 100% Fiano grapes and is a faithful expression of this variety native to the Puglia region. A fresh, light white, ready to drink now and easy to enjoy. Its bouquet offers a pleasant mix of fruity notes enriched by hints of spice and aromatic herbs. The Fiano grape is grown mainly in Campania, but it can also be considered native to Puglia, as
its presence in the area is in fact documented as early as the late 13th century. Vinicola Cicella is a family business run by two brothers, Michele and Cosimo, located in a small village in the countryside south of Taranto; the Fiano vineyards lie on plots of medium-textured soil with varying proportions of sand, clay and silt, close to the Ionian Sea, and are strongly influenced by its proximity.
The vines face south and are Guyot-pruned, and yields are never allowed to exceed around 90 quintals of grapes per hectare. The grapes reach full ripeness around the last week of August each year, when they are harvested and taken to the winery. After destemming, the berries are gently pressed and the free-run must ferments with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Ageing also takes place in stainless steel, where the wine rests for 5 months before bottling. In the glass, this Fiano shows a lovely straw-yellow colour with bright green highlights. On the palate it is soft yet assertive and balanced, with pleasant savoury sensations and good acidity on the finish. On the nose, fragrant floral notes emerge, accompanied by delicate hints of fresh tropical fruit. Ideal with a wide variety of dishes, including fish, as well as some cheeses and white meats such as chicken or turkey.
