The history of the Deltetto winery goes back to the end of the 19th century, when the great-great-grandfather of Carlo, Cristina and Claudia, the current owners, produced the first bottles of Nebbiolo and Barbera in the farmhouse "I Lioni", located on the steep hills of the Roero. But it was not until 1953 that grandfather Carlo, affectionately known as Carlin, and his wife Catterina decided to set up their winery in Canale, in the heart of the Roero. A passionate artisan, Carlin immediately recognised the extraordinary potential of the land and its fruits, thus establishing the values of ethical and responsible agriculture that he has passed on to his descendants. In addition to the traditional production of Roero Rosso, he extended his vision to the Langa of Barolo, obtaining the prestigious title of "Cantina Storica", authorised to make wine and produce the Langa DOCG.
In 1977 the young Antonio, freshly graduated from the Umberto I Oenology School in Alba, took the helm of the company, bringing innovation to the vineyard and the cellar and adopting high quality standards that made him stand out in the Piedmontese wine scene. His vision and passion for the Metodo Classico and white wines led to the first bottles of Roero Bianco from the San Michele vineyard and the Spumante Metodo Classico based on Nebbiolo and Arneis. While the sparkling wine project was put on hold, he concentrated on the native production, which later obtained the DOCG denomination. Twenty years later, in 1997, the first Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines were planted, and in 2000 the first Metodo Classico sparkling wine was made with international grapes.
With the advent of the new DOCG Alta Langa, sparkling wine production moved to the heights of Roddino. In 2016, the Alta Langa Brut was recognised by Decanter magazine as the best Metodo Classico in Italy. Since 2017, the vineyards and production have been certified organic, while the approach in the cellar is aimed at the search for finesse and expressive authenticity. In 2018, the company was awarded for its commitment to environmental protection.
